Rescheduling of perennials - KiTa Ulm

The replanning of the ‘KiTa Spatzennest’ takes place above the well-known “Ulmer Adlerbestei", a walkable wall build centuries ago to protect the city from the Roman Empire. Nowadays you can also find large scaled beds wich are decorated with a rich variety of plants. This project is about plant combinations and temporal changes of it. First of all, it is important to locate the trees.

A second step is the distinction between the different annual and perennial plants which is very challenging. Carefully selected and studied species where chosen for the new planting. The needed information about plants can be found in the Bruns catalog or on the Internet. The Countess of Zeppelin website is also a great help. Choosing carefully the most suitable for the situation is the most exciting and challenging part.

It’s also interesting to deal with the different lighting conditions. To imagine the height differences in order to come up with good combinations is the most exciting thing to do. Grasses are often undervalued for design. Only planting grasses would be boring, so it is important to find a good mixing ratio here.

The huge and very sunny planting can only be perceived after entering the building or while walking on the “Adlerbastei" wall.
